Ruixin Fan/Cardiac Surgeon; Professor in Cardiovascular Surgery/Head, Department of Aortic Surgery and Coronary Artery Surgery/Director, Department of Cardiac surgery

Bio:

Dr. Fan studied medicine in Jiangxi Medical College in Jiangxi Province, China. From 1986 to 1989, he completed his master graduate program at Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Hunan Medical College in Hunan Province, China. From 1990 to 1993, he completed his doctor graduate program at Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital, Guangdong Provincial Cardiovascular Institute in Guangzhou. From Jan 1999 to Mar 1999, he was working in Berlin Heart Center in German as visiting scholar. From Nov 2006 to Feb 2007, he was working in Department of Cardiac Surgery, Johns Hopkins University in USA as visiting scholar. From 2013 to 2018,he was the Head of Department of Aortic Surgery and Coronary Artery Surgery, Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital in Guangzhou. From 2018 to 2020, he was the Deputy Director of Department of Cardiac surgery, Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital in Guangzhou.

He is the Vice Chairman of the Academic Committee of Aortic Disease, Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, Chinese Medical Association and Chairman of Society of Aortic Disease, Guangdong Provincial Medical Association. In 2012, he won “ the Excellent Doctor Award” from Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, Chinese Medical Association.


Research Interests:

Dr.Fan’s expertise is in aortic surgery. He conducted a study on the surgical treatment of aortic dissection. For Stanford type A aortic dissection, he performed replacement of ascending aorta, replacement of total arch replacement and intraoperative stent implantation in descending aorta. For Stanford type B aortic dissection, he set up hybrid operating room where he and his team use the hybrid technique which include interventional surgery and open surgery at the same time to treat these patients. In the past several years, he performed aortic surgery up to 250 cases per year, including 70 cases of aortic dissection. He has assumed a number of national and provincial projects about aortic disease including 4 national projects and 3 provincial projects.
