Biography

Dr. Yang Mei received her medical degree from Sun Yat-sen Universityand has been in practice for more than 15 years. As a breast surgeon whosefocus is helping people who have had cancer surgery with their recovery, bothin appearance and in function, she specializes in all forms of breast cancerdiagnosis and remove combined with reconstruction, including tissue- andimplant-based techniques. All of these procedures are designed to help cancersurvivors restore their sense of self as they cope with the aftermath of treatment.

Dr. Yang finds her work as a surgeon intellectually stimulating. Sheis especially interested in how she can use complex surgical techniques toachieve the most complete and natural solution to each patient's problems. Sheviews her work as a reconstructive surgeon as an opportunity to help peoplecope with the difficult physical changes that often accompany their cancertreatment. “I am a partner in achieving their goals. I feel personally investedin my patients and their outcomes,” she says.

Dr. Yang is an associate professor of surgery at Guangdong ProvincialPeople’s Hospital. In addition to her work as a surgeon, she has an extensiveresearch background, has published extensively in her field and often makespresentations at national meetings. One of these articles “Microvesicles secreted by macrophages shuttle invasion potentiatingmicroRNAs into breast cancer cells” was cited more than650 times. “Innovation and progress are important to me. Research allows us tofine tune our approach and to figure out the best options in treating ourpatients,” says Dr. Yang.
