Xu Gang, 48 years old, MD, PHD Chief physician of cardiovascular surgery department of Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital and Guangdong Cardiovascular Institute, president of the Professional Committee on Maternal and Fetal Cardiology of Chinese Research Hospital Association, member of Guangdong Medical Association, standing member of Thoracic Cardiovascular Surgery Branch of Biomedical Engineering Institute of Guangdong Province, evaluation expert of the Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong province, member of Youth Committee of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Branch of Chinese Medical Association.

He graduated from Sun Yat-sen Medical University majoring in clinical medicine in 1995, when he started to engage in clinical treatment of cardiac surgery and basic research on thoracic and cardiac surgery. He has presided over more than 600 cases of cardiac surgery every year, a total of more than 7,000 cardiac surgeries, with an overall success rate of over 98%. He is especially good at all kinds of small incision and correcting common congenital heart disease and infant complex congenital heart disease surgery, such as Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), Total anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC), complete atrioventricular channel (CAVC), arterial switch operation, pulmonary atresia, treatment for aortic arch combined with other congenital heart abnormalities in infants and young children, single ventricle Fontan operation, etc.  He has deep attainments in prenatal diagnosis, postpartum surgery and postoperative rehabilitation treatment for congenital heart disease.  He studied at Shizuoka Children's Hospital in Japan, Advocate Hope Children's Hospital in Chicago, USA, and Eastern Tennessee University Quinlan School of Medicine.

In 2009, he was awarded the Earl Award by the Chinese Society of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery.  He won the first prize of the Bakken Scholarship and the prize of excellent paper in the 9th and 17th national conferences of the Chinese Society of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery.  He was selected on the Hurun Chinese Doctor List.  As project leader, he has completed two projects of Guangdong Natural Science Foundation, two projects of Guangdong Medical Science Research and one project of Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital.  As principle investigator, he won one first prize and one second prize of Guangdong Science and Technology Progress Award.  As main participant, he has completed one project of National Science and Technology Support Plan and one project of National Natural Science Foundation of China, one key research project of Guangdong Province, two doctoral research projects and several master research projects.  As chief editor, he participated in the compilation of two academic monographs.
