The department of emergency medicine of Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital was established in 2002, integrating pre-hospital care, in-hospital emergency, and intensive care. It is the vice-chairman unit of the Emergency Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, the chairman unit of the Emergency Branch of Guangdong Medical Association and the chairman unit of the ICU Management Committee of Guangdong Hospital Association. The department of emergency medicine is national key clinical specialty and ranks the first in south China and the eighth in the country in the rankings of China's hospitals released by Fudan University in 2019.
As part of the only unit with a clinical and translational research platform in emergency and critical care medicine in Guangdong Province, our department attaches equal importance to clinical management and basic research, with main research directions of hypertonic saline therapy for cranial hypertension, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, severe kidney injury, critical nutrition, and sepsis brain injury.
Since its establishment, we have got more than 80 scientific research projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the key projects of the Provincial Natural Science Foundation, with a total funding of more than 16 million yuan, and won the second prize of Guangdong Science and Technology Awards. More than 10 SCI papers (the highest IF being 15 points) have been published every year, and 6 monographs as chief editors and co-editors. We currently have 4 PhD supervisors and 6 postgraduate supervisors, 2 leading medical talents of Guangdong Province and 4 outstanding young medical talents of Guangdong Province.
The annual South Critical Care Forum hosted by the department is the most influential and important communication platform in south China. Every year, it recruits about 50 doctors from all over the country and many batches of nurse specialists. Many trainees are directors or backbones of local medical institutions.
The department of emergency and critical care medicine has a medical team conducting clinical practice, scientific research and teaching tasks. Our diagnostic criteria, treatment and management are leading China. It is not only one of the most influential centers of critical care medicine in south China, but also an important training base.
All medical staff in the department will remain true to their original aspiration, and will stay motivated and dedicated to providing the best medical care for patients. We promise solemnly and formally: "we will cherish every patient's life as we cherish our own, and will do our best for it."
