

On May 29, 2025, a French healthcare delegation led by Mr. Romain JACQUET, Counsellor for Social Affairs at the Embassy of France in China, visited Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital for an exchange aimed at promoting the establishment of a friendly collaboration between University Hospital of Toulouse in France and Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital. The delegation included Prof. Pierre-Jean OUSSET from University Hospital of Toulouse, Prof. Karim ASEHNOUNE, President of CNCR (Comité National de Coordination de la Recherche), as well as Olivier NGO, Science and Higher Education Attache at the Consulate General of France in Guangzhou, and Higher Education Cooperation Officer Zheng Peng. The delegation was accompanied by Yang Bo, Deputy Division Chief of Exchange and Cooperation Divison of Health Commission of Guangdong Province. Prof. Yu Xueqing, President of Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital, and Vice President Prof. Lin Zhanyi, met with the delegation. Also present were heads of relevant functional departments, Prof. Wang Lijuan, Director of Guangdong Neuroscience Institute, and Prof. Zhang Yuhu, Deputy Director of Guangdong Neuroscience Institute.
President Yu Xueqing extended a warm welcome to the French delegation on behalf of the hospital and provided an overview of the hospital’s comprehensive high-quality development in recent years in the areas of medical care, education, and research. President Yu emphasized that the hospital places great importance on international healthcare cooperation and exchange and expressed the hope for deeper collaboration across more specialized fields in the future.
Counsellor Romain JACQUET expressed sincere gratitude for the warm reception and shared a positive vision for China-French cooperation in healthcare. Prof. Karim ASEHNOUNE and Prof. Pierre-Jean OUSSET provided detailed introductions respectively on the current state of clinical research in France and its international collaboration, demonstrating France’s open approach in the field of medical research.
Both sides also discussed potential joint scientific research projects and talent exchange programs, expressing a desire to encourage more young doctors and researchers to engage in technical exchanges.
That afternoon, the delegation held a thematic discussion with experts from various departments of the hospital, including Neurology, Rehabilitation, Burn Care, and Nuclear Medicine, focusing on cognitive disorders. The seminar was chaired by Prof. Zhang Yuhu, Deputy Director of the Neuroscience Institute. During the in-depth exchange on the diagnosis and treatment of cognitive disorders, experts from both countries discussed innovations in clinical management. Dr. Feng Shujun presented an overview of the Department of Neurology and its work in the prevention and treatment of dementia as a National Core Advanced Diagnosis and Treatment Center for Cognitive Impairment. Prof. Pierre-Jean OUSSET from University Hospital of Toulouse shared updates on drug development in the field of Alzheimer’s disease, while Prof. Karim ASEHNOUNE, President of CNCR (Comité National de Coordination de la Recherche), highlighted mechanisms for cross-institutional clinical research collaboration. Both sides engaged in thorough discussions on potential cooperation in areas such as joint cohort studies, data sharing platforms, and nurturing young talents.
The delegation also visited the Physical Examination Center, Concord Medical Center, Neurology Diagnosis and Treatment Center, and scientific research platforms.
