Professor Wu Yilong has earned this distinguished recognition once again! This marks the sixth consecutive year, since 2018, that Professor Wu has been listed as a 'Highly Cited Researcher' by Clarivate Analytics. His achievement is unique, as he is the only researcher from mainland China in the field of clinical medicine to be consecutively honored for six years!

The "Highly Cited Researchers" list not only serves as an acknowledgment of exceptional global research but also aids in enhancing reputation, fostering collaboration, optimizing resource allocation, and propelling academic research. This year, bibliometric experts and data scientists at the Institute for Scientific Information from Clarivate Analytics identified influential researchers from universities, research institutes, and corporate organizations worldwide, using citation data and analytics from Web of Science. A total of 6,849 scientists from 67 countries/regions were selected. Professor Wu Yilong’s presence on the list for the sixth consecutive year is a testament to his profound academic expertise and his significant and far-reaching impact.

Professor Wu Yilong, a distinguished expert in clinical oncology, holds several prestigious positions including that of a second-tier professor, chief physician, and PhD supervisor. He currently presides as the President of the Guangdong Medical Doctor Association and holds the title of Chief Expert at Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital. He is also the Honorary Director of the Guangdong Lung Cancer Research Institute, Chairperson of the Chinese Thoracic Tumor Research Collaboration Group, a former President of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology, and a member of the Central Health Care Committee's panel of experts. His recognitions are numerous and include awards such as the National May Day Labor Medal, Advanced Individual in Central Health Care Work Award, honored by the Ministry of Health as a Mid-Youth Expert with Outstanding Contributions. He is also a recipient of the Wu Yang Award, National Outstanding Professional and Technical Talent, and has been listed among the Top 100 Distinguished Talents of Southern Guangdong Province. Notably, Professor Wu chaired the 2020 World Conference on Lung Cancer.

In his role as the lead researcher, Professor Wu has secured a second prize of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award along with eight first and second-class awards at the provincial and ministerial levels in science and technology. His publication record is impressive, with nearly 400 influential academic papers to his credit as the first or corresponding author, including entries in top-tier journals such as four in The New England Journal of Medicine, eight in the Lancet series, and eight in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, all of which have impacted lung cancer treatment guidelines globally and in China. Between 2018 and 2023, he was included in the list of the world’s "Highly Cited Researchers," marking his position as the sole scholar from mainland China in the field of clinical medicine to achieve this distinction.

Professor Wu is a trailblazer in evidence-based oncology in China, lauded for his exceptional contributions to addressing drug shortages and enhancing medication affordability for lung cancer patients in the country. He stands out as the first Chinese honoree in four decades to receive the "Distinguished Scientific Contributions Award" from the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC).
